Sale price$16.00

This unique fair-trade ornament represents the red-breasted nuthatch.  This small songbird breeds in forests western and northern North America where it feeds on conifer seeds and insects.  It can, however, be found throughout the continent and frequently visits backyard bird feeders.

This hand-woven figure will look great hanging on your Christmas tree, rear-view mirror or adding a colorful touch to another part of your home. Displaying this fair-trade craft will remind people about the importance of protecting tropical forests which host this and thousands of other unique kinds of wildlife.

The sale of these ornaments supports forest conservation and helps meet local needs in traditional communities in Peru.  This craft was woven by artisans from villages on the Maranon River with natural chambira palm fiber.

Please remember that each ornament was hand-made so the exact design of the craft may vary from the photo.

& rainforest in the Amazon

Amazon forest loss is driving species to extinction, aggravating global warming, and robbing people of unique medicines, foods and other benefits. Cutting and burning forests is often more profitable than conserving them, so some native communities in northern Peru have illegally logged and grown coca and other cash-crops to escape poverty.
